Chateau de Massillan is a small luxury hotel and gourmet restaurant located in Uchaux, in the Veucluse region of Provence. Housed in a fortified castle that was once a hunting lodge for Henry II and Diane de Poitier, the Hotel provides the perfect environment for relaxing, sampling the restaurant’s exquisite cuisine and enjoying excursions into the unspoiled landscape of Provence.
Chateau de Massillan has 12 rooms all individually designed and decorated by Birgit Israel Interiors. The building’s original architecture is complemented by a mix of exquisite antiques and contemporary furniture, luxury bed linens and specially designed features such as oversized limestone sinks. Many of the bathrooms offer a separate bath and shower. Air conditioning is available in all south facing rooms. The suites have large terraces which open onto the central courtyard. All of Chateau de Massillan’s rooms have delightful views.
Chateau de Massillan boasts 24 acres of parkland, whit a herb garden, 40 meter long pond, pine woods, meadows and a 19th century walled kitchen garden which provides produce for the hotel restaurant.
The Hotel is situated near Orange and Avignon just 10 minutes off the “Autoroute de Soleil”. It is surrounded by world famous vineyards such as chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas and Beaumes de Venise. There are many historical attractions located within a 30 minute drive from the Chateau. These include the Ancient Roman Theater in Orange where every year, in July and August, world renowned open air operas are staged. Vaison la Romaine, Pont du Gard, the Georges de L’Ardeche and the Palace du Papes in Avignon are also to be found nearby.
